Biography

Gail Descoeurs Painting is a love of life for Montreal born Gail Descoeurs who was first influenced to be an artist by her father, Jean-Guy Descoeurs. During her childhood years she would spend hours sketching along side him and in 1980 she took out her father’s easel and oil paints and started to paint. From that moment on her passion for art began.

Growing up she was surrounded by nature and was always found walking, playing, sketching, or running in the forest and fields for it was there she found peace. Gail derives inspiration from the power of nature and she is moved by the different feelings that nature evokes. She paints in her studio using pieces of her own photographed scenes combined with her dreams, memories and imagination that’s guided by her heart and mood to exhibit colorful dramatic panoramic scenes. She has a love for wide open spaces and tranquility but she is also known for chasing into approaching storms to paint one of her favorite moods. “I want my viewers to be able to feel my paintings, the mood, the drama and to rouse emotions once felt”.

Throughout her early career as an artist she supported herself by pursuing a career in mechanical drafting. In the 90’s, she started selling and exhibiting her work with associations and in juried shows and her work became recognized and sought after. Her paintings are often sold upon completion and at times even before. In 2002, after many requests, she decided to take up teaching and as passionate as Gail is about expressing herself on canvas she discovered that she is equally passionate for sharing her love of painting with her students.

Today Gail is living her dream; she has built a home studio and is now painting full time. On a daily basis you will find Gail in her studio painting, teaching or just meditating. She has found a home with fields in her back and forests at her sides where she feels at peace and inspired everyday. The painter and the painting…All is one.
